This article explains how to protect existing member pricing when making changes to your Clava memberships. This process is called "grandfathering" or "price protection."
Why Grandfather Members?
Sometimes you might need to adjust your memberships, like changing the price, credits offered, or other features. These changes typically apply to everyone, but you might want existing members to keep their original offer. Grandfathering allows you to do this.
Clava's Grandfathering Methods
Clava offers two ways to control how price changes affect your members:
Membership (Subscription) Level Grandfathering
Member Level Grandfathering (Immutability)
Membership (Subscription) Level Grandfathering
This method applies to the entire pricing structure for a specific membership.
Navigation: Products > Passes & Subscriptions > Select a membership > Edit.
Remember, grandfathering applies to each individual pricing option.
Make your changes to the pricing
Review the Existing membership update strategy options:
Changes made will affect new sales only: This keeps existing member prices the same, only affecting new signups.
Changes made will update existing memberships on renewal: This updates existing member prices when their membership renews.
Changes made to restrictions and some options will update existing memberships now, other changes will be applied on membership renewal: This updates some restrictions and options immediately, while price changes happen on renewal.

Member Level Grandfathering (Immutability)
This method protects an individual member's price from future changes.
Navigation: Customers > Select the Customer > Three dots beside the members monthly subscription > Edit.
Under Grandfathering Option (Optional):, enable the Immutability toggle. This prevents price or other changes in the main membership from affecting this specific member.
Apply the Changes:
Schedule changes: Choose this option if you want the new pricing and usage rules to apply only after the member's next renewal.
Apply now: Choose this option if you want the changes to restrictions and options to be applied immediately to the member's account.
By following these steps, you can successfully grandfather your members and protect their original pricing structure.
