Clava: Organising Your Classes, Courses and Instructors with Class Types and Categories

What are Class Types and Categories?

Clava allows you to organise your classes & courses using two key concepts:

  • Class Types: These represent the specific types of classes you offer, like Vinyasa Yoga or Strength Training.

  • Categories: These group related class types together for better organisation. Imagine a "Yoga" category housing Vinyasa, Yin Yoga, etc. Categories can even have subcategories for further organisation (e.g., Yoga > Flow, Yoga > Restorative).

Benefits of Using Class Types and Categories:

  • Organisation for Admins and Members: Easily find classes by type or category when viewing class details, instructor profiles, or filtering schedules.

  • Simplified Class Creation: Create classes and assign them the appropriate type and category quickly.

Getting Started:

There's no strict order to follow. You can start by simply adding class types if you have few of them, or create categories first for a more structured approach.

Steps to Add Class Types:

  1. Navigate to Settings > Class Types & Categories.

  2. Click "Add new class type +".

  3. Fill in details like the class type name and description (optional).

  4. Click "Save".

  5. Repeat steps 2-4 to add all your class types.

Steps to Set Up Primary Categories:

  1. Click on the "Categories" tab on the Class Types page.

  2. Click "Add new category +".

  3. Enter a name for the category (e.g., Group Exercise).

  4. Since you're creating primary categories, leave the "Parent Category" option blank.

  5. You can assign existing class types during this step.

  6. Click "Save".

Adding Subcategories:

  1. Follow steps 2-4 from "Set Up Primary Categories" but choose a descriptive name for your subcategory (e.g., Gym Classes).

  2. In the "Parent Category" dropdown, select the relevant primary category (e.g., Group Exercise).

  3. Click "Save".

Important Note on Deleting Categories:

Deleting a category removes all its subcategories and associated class types. It also removes class type assignments from classes, courses, and instructors. Use this function with caution.

Assigning Class Types:

Once you have your class types and categories defined, you can assign them while setting up classes, courses, and instructor profiles within Clava.

By effectively using class types and categories, you can create a well-organised class management system in Clava, making it easier for both you and your members to navigate your offerings.
