Courses - How to create a new course

This article provides a step-by-step guide on building courses using Clava, a platform designed for creating multi-week learning journeys.

Updated this week

What Makes Clava Courses Different?

  • Structured Courses: Unlike traditional classes, Clava courses are multi-week programs with a defined start and end date, encouraging participants to commit to the entire experience.

  • Member-Centric: Members typically book the entire course at once, streamlining the registration process.

  • Flexible Access: Offer the course as a complete package or allow individual class bookings.

Creating Your First Course on Clava

Navigation: Schedule > “+” button > New Course

Fill in the Course Details:

  • Course Name: Give your course a clear and descriptive title.

  • Description: Craft a compelling description that outlines the course content.

  • Start & End Dates: Define the timeframe for the course.

  • Class Duration: Set the length of each class session.

  • Course Schedule: Click "Add Day & Time" to specify the days and times for each class session.

    • Note: The system will automatically calculate the number of sessions based on your start and end dates.

  • Date forward enrollment: Allows clients to sign up after the start of the course. They're signed up for every class from that point forward.

  • Allow single session booking / open enrollment: Allow the sessions to be booked individually and paid either with a course session membership or per session.

  • Status: Set the course status to "Active" to make it visible to potential members.

  • Instructor(s): Assign qualified instructors to lead the course.

  • Category (Optional): Categorise your course for better organisation (e.g., CrossFit101, Yoga, Adult Team etc.).

  • Class Type: Choose the appropriate class type from available options.

  • Space: Select the space that the course sessions will take place within

  • Set Additional Options:

    • Class Capacity: Define the maximum number of participants per class (optional, defaults to unlimited).

    • Hidden Course: Toggle "on" to hide the course from public view and provide a custom URL for access (e.g., for special programs).

    • Age Restrictions: Set any age limitations for participants if applicable.

  • Payment Settings:

    • Free or Paid: Choose whether the course is free or requires a fee.

    • Course Price: If paid, set the total price for the entire course.

    • Sell Online: Enable online purchasing for account holders.

  • Preview & Save:

    • Preview: Review all course details for accuracy before publishing.

    • Save as Draft: Save the course for later editing if needed.

    • Create: Publish the course and make it available to members.

Additional Notes:

  • When setting the overall course price, Clava automatically calculates a per-session price. This can be helpful if you want to allow someone to enrol in individual classes within the course as a drop-in.

  • Remember to save your work throughout the process.
